Ford announces the Special Products Division.

Public naming of the car by Ford..

Ford releases names and characteristics of the different models..

March 10th, 1957

 

Ford names five plants where Edsels will be built. Another plant at the west coast shall follow.

July, 1957

 

Production begins in Wayne (Michigan), Mahwah (New Jersey), Louisville (Kentucky), San Jose (California) and Sommerville (Massachusetts).

September 4, 1957

 

First day Edsels are sold.

January, 1958

 

Ford combines the Edsel, Mercury and Lincoln Divisions to Mercury-Edsel-Lincoln-Division (MEL).

October 31st, 1958

 

New models are announced. All 59 models are assembled in Louisville, Kentucky.

October 15th, 1959

 

The 1960 models are announced.

November 19th, 1959
